"Mrs. Myrtle W. Poffinberger, 66, died at the Buena Vista Home at 9:45 a. m. Thursday. She had been in failing health for some time. In November, 1919, she was married in Polk County to Artie Poffinberger, who preceded her in death Dec. 18, 1950.
Mrs. Poffinberger is survived by: sons, Clinton Poffinberger, Denver, Colo., Raymond Poffinberger, Marshall; two brothers, Lee Wardr, Humansville. Frank Ward, McAllister, Okla., and one niece, Mrs. Odis West, Marshall. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. The body is at the Ewing Funeral Home. "

June 1914 "Mrs. Sam Blue and brother, Nathan Ward, of southeast of Yuma, left for California, Missouri, last Friday. Mrs. Blue has been in Wray for the past few weeks taking medical treatment, and decided to go east and take treatment from a specialist. Mr. Ward will also take treatment while there. They will probably be gone a month."

October 1914 Yuma "Mrs. Austin Clark and Mrs. Doa K. England, of Bethany, Missouri, came in on the early train Wednesday and are visiting with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Ward, fourteen miles south of Yuma."

August 1919 "Mrs. Sam BLue and N. F. Ward, of south of Yuma, were called to Topeka, Kanss yesterday by a message announcing the death of a brother. J. F. Kelly, the son of Mrs. Blue, accompanied them."

December 1977 " Mrs. Adah Lagraoe Houston, 87, King City, died at 7:56 p.m. Thursday in a hospital at Perryton, Tez. after becoming ill while she was visiting her cousin, Mrs. Betty Jo Clark, Spearman, Tex. She was born Dec. 25, 1890, in Stanberry, and was the daughter of the late Myles and Sarah Elizabeth Anderson Clayton. On Sept. 25, 1954, she married Clinton B. Houston, who died April 6, 1971. Mrs. Houston was a member of the Stanberry First Christian Church. Additional survivors include an aunt, Mrs. Arabelle Cliffman, Albany, and other cousins. Services were held at 2:30 today at the Johnson Funeral Home, Stanberry. The Rev. Ray Trotter officiated and burial was in the High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry."

February 1912 Wray "Through the good services of Town Marshal Henry Isreal of Ridgeway, what is claimed by the Denver police to be one of the largest gangs of “white slavers' in the country will probably he caught and punished. Two girls who had been spirited away from Denver and put into houses of ill-repute in Telluride. They escaped and had returned as far as Ridgeway on their way home when they were threatened by a white slave procurer who had followed them from Telluride. They appealed to Marshal Isreal. The members of the gang who have been operating between Denver and the mining camps have been watched for some time and now complaints will be filed in the United States court charging several parties with “white slaving'. A deputy Sheriff of the Denver county jail was implicated by the two girls rescued by Marshal Isreal. Henry Isreal is well known in this county having been an early settler in the Vernon neighborhood. He homesteaded the place now owned by Frank Akey and occupied by Sam Blue."

May 9, 1918 "Samuel Blue, a well-known farmer whose place is some fifteen miles south of Yuma, died Saturday night. He was in Yuma Saturday, apparently in the best of hoalth. On the way home he complained of not feeling well. He retired earlier that evening than the rest of the family. In the morninpr Mrs. Blue, when breakfast was ready, sent the little grandson to call Mr. Blue. The boy said he could not wake him up. When the older members of the family saw him they at once knew that life was extinct. He was lying on his left side, evidently in the same posture as when he went to sleep.
The funeral was held at the home of the deceased Tuesday and the interment was at tho Vernon cemetery."

November 29, 1918 "Mrs. Grace M. Getchell, the mother of R.E. Getchell, died at the son's home this week. The deceased had come to nurse her grandchildren and was stricken herself. Two of Mr. Getchell's children died. The body of the grandmother was taken to Franklin, Nebraska for burial."

"Doctor Bathaniel Ward was born Aug. 10, 1859 near Goldborough, North Carolina and departed this life at his home near Vernon, Dec. 1, 1935, at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 21 days.
Funeral services were held in Vernon Dec. 4, at 1:30 p. m. with Rev. E. H. Stein officiating. The remains were laid to rest in Glendale cemetery.
Mr. Ward, while still a child, moved with his parents to Cameron, Mo., where he grew to manhood. He was converted early in life and joined the Christian Union church and later joined the Methodist church in Vernon. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in Missouri. In 1892 he moved to Weaubleau, Mo.
On Jan. 2, 1898 he was united in marriage to Mary Alice Proctor. Four children were born to this union, William Ward, Elmer Ward, Mrs. Roy Thompson and Mrs. J. S. Parker.
In 1902 he moved with his family to his farm west of Vernon where he resided until his death.
Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his departure seven grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Celia Blue of Denver, one brother, Graham Ward of Kansas, and a host of other relatives and friends."

" Mary Allice Ward, the daughter of George and Sarah Proctor, was born February 23, 1871, at Weaublen, Mo., and passed away at the Cedardale Rest Home in Wray on December 19, 1955, at the age of 84 years and ten months.
On January 2, 1898, she married Doctor B. Ward in Weaubleau. Mo. They moved to a farm two miles west of Vernon, Colo., in March, 1903, where she lived until 1942 when she moved to Wray. Her husband preceded her In death on December 1, 1935. Relatives who remain to mourn her death include two daughters, Berta Thompson and Dorothy Parker of Wray; two sons. George William of Vernon and Elmer B. of Fontana, Calif.; two brothers, William C. Proctor of Wray and George Proctor of Oakland, Oalif.; seventeen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She became a Christian in early childhood and remained true and sincere throughout her life. She was a member of the Vernon Methodist church until 1950 when she transferred her membership to the Wray Methodist church. In her declining years the Lord was her Staff and Comforter and her faith in Him who doth all things well supported her In all (her trials and afflictions.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, December 21, at 2:00 p. m. at the Methodist church in Wray with the Rev. James C. Kecsey officiating. Burial was in Glendale cemetery at Vernon."
